Damage pegged at $15K after stack fire at MSSC

Damage is pegged at $15,000 after a fire broke out at an automotive parts plant in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent fire crews were called to the blaze shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday, after an oil fire started in a stack vent on the roof of Meritor Suspension Systems Company (MSSC), located at 201 Park Avenue East.

Officials said firefighters battled the fire on top of the furnace using dry chemical extinguishers.

Chatham-Kent EMS was also called to the scene to help firefighters, checking their vitals due to the extreme heat.

Firefighters remained on scene ensuring temperatures dropped in the stack.

No injuries were reported.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
