House fire in Erieau causes $1M in damage

A major house fire in Erieau has caused $1 million in damage.

Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, Chatham-Kent fire crews were called to the home on Nichols Avenue.

Fire officials said the single-family dwelling was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

The command unit was called in to provide air and rehab support as crews encountered strong winds for the duration of the incident.

The home has been reported as a complete loss. There was also some significant damage to a neighbouring home.

Entegrus and Enbridge as well as police and paramedics were all on scene. 

Officials said working smoke alarms alerted the residents inside the home at the time. The neighbouring home was vacant at the time of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

Damages are estimated upwards of $1,000,000.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
