Breakfast on the Farm coming to Pain Court

Kids and kids at heart will have a chance to get up close to some big farm equipment this Saturday.

The Breakfast on the Farm: Brunch Edition will take place at Laprise Farms at 7359 Maple Line near Pain Court on October 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The event is put on by Farm & Food Care Ontario, with the goal of connecting local residents with farmers.

"There's certainly an opportunity for people a lot of people from all walks of life to come and see what's going on on the farm," said farmer Jean Laprise. "A lot of photo ops with some big equipment, some kids might want to go sit on a big tractor."

Christa Ormiston, Communications Manager for Farm & Food Care Ontario, said they have been doing Breakfast on the Farm for about 13 years.

"We do three a year across Ontario where we visit a variety of different farms. It just allows people to have the experience to step on the farm and engage with farmers," she said.

Laprise added that there will also be lots of food.

"It's a short drive, and there will be all kinds of equipment here, all kinds of food. With all the people that are giving food samples, from Schnitzels to bread pudding, to hot dogs, there will be enough for a food coma," Laprise said.

Plus, there will be tours of the Brussels sprouts operation.

"We're going to be packing Brussels sprouts," said Laprise. "We are the largest operation in Canada actually for Brussels sprouts, so we will be packing Brussels sprouts and giving guided tours through the packing area of the Brussels sprouts operation."

Tickets are $10 a person, and kids 12 and under are free. Tickets must be bought in advance, online through Event Brite at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/breakfast-on-the-farm-brunch-edition-tickets-714568171637.
