Beware if you drive on Fridays in December, especially up Keil Drive

Chatham-Kent police have once again listed the most dangerous intersections in the municipality and they haven't changed much from last year.

In 2022, police reported the intersections with the most collisions were Keil Drive and Richmond Street with 14, Park Avenue and Lacroix Street with 11, and Grand Avenue and Keil Drive with 11 crashes. Grand Avenue and St Clair Street and Keil Drive and Riverview Drive round out the top five dangerous intersections in Chatham-Kent, both with nine.

Police also said more collisions occurred on Fridays (360) than any other day of the week, and December was the busiest month for crashes with 210.

The police annual report also showed that reported collisions trended upwards last year with 1,927, an increase of 259 from 2021.

Police said 12 of the crashes were fatal, up two from the previous year.

Police said an independent analysis of each of the 12 fatal motor vehicle collisions revealed that six were alcohol or drug-related and one resulted from driving faster than the road conditions allowed.

The number of serious crashes that required the Traffic Unit to be called out decreased last year from 27 to 26, according to police.

Police also noted that their officers issued a total of 3,447 traffic tickets last year.
