CK police arrest man carrying a BB gun, meth after a fire in "The Cave"

A 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested at gunpoint after police were called to a parking lot in downtown Chatham to investigate a fire.

Chatham-Kent police said emergency crews responded to the fire under the parking lot of an address on King Street in Chatham at around 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

Officers said the specific area they were called to is known locally as "the cave."

When police arrived, they found a man who had what appeared to be the handle of a firearm tucked into his waistband, so officers initiated a gun-point arrest.

Police said the man was cooperative, adding that when they searched him, they found a BB gun and some suspected methamphetamine.

Both the BB gun and the suspected methamphetamine were seized by police and a 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with drug possession.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
