Bathroom fire at CKSS under investigation

A small fire at Chatham-Kent Secondary School in Chatham caused an evacuation of the school, but no injuries.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue said the fire started in a 2nd floor bathroom and smoke filled the hallways on Monday afternoon.

Fire officials reported fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and began to clear the smoke from the corridors and building. A search also confirmed there was nobody trapped in the smoke.

"The swift actions of the staff to evacuate the building and follow up with additional information allowed us to make an effective attack on the fire," said Fire Chief Chris Case.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Damage was minimal.
