Chatham teen arrested after bathroom fire at CKSS

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a teen boy in connection with a fire in a second-floor bathroom at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

CK police said emergency crews were called to the school on McNaughton Avenue East just after 1:30 p.m. on October 30 after a fire alarm went off.

When Chatham-Kent firefighters arrived, they learned that the fire had started in the men's bathroom on the second floor of the school and what they found there sparked an arson investigation.

Police said they were able to identify a suspect in connection with the case and arrested the youth at around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the 14-year-old Chatham youth was charged with arson and was taken to police headquarters where he was held overnight.

He was set to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
