McDonald's opens new location in Blenheim

There's a fresh set of golden arches in Blenheim.

Located at 346 Chatham Street North, the town's first McDonald's held a grand opening ceremony on December 15.

"We picked Blenheim because it's a community we thought that was under-served from a quick-serve restaurant position," said Local McDonald's Franchisee David Evans. "It's very close to the 401 but most importantly it's a community we thought was going to support the restaurant. I can't think of a better place to be."

To celebrate the opening, the restaurant will be donating a portion of the proceeds from all food and beverage sales for the first two weeks to the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

"I can't believe the droves of people to pay us a visit," said Evans. "We are so fortunate that it's been this well received."

According to Evan, when it came to hiring staff for the restaurant, it was well received.

He said over 65 people have been hired at the restaurant and their still looking to expand.

"Hopefully we'll be up to the 70-80 and maybe get to the 100-person mark in the near future," said Evan.

This location marks one of the only food options in the area that will be available to residents 24/7.
