Four hurt in Hwy. 401 crash involving transport truck

A crash involving a transport truck on Highway 401 to the west of London sent four people to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway just west of Iona Road in Dutton-Dunwich just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, where a transport truck had hit a disabled vehicle.

Three people in the vehicle were taken to hospital. Two suffered non-life threatening injuries, while the third suffered life-threatening injuries. The trucker was also taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Elgin OPP said.

The crash temporarily closed a section of the eastbound 401 while the OPP west region traffic incident management and enforcement team was on scene. It has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
