Dresden Raceway ready for opening day

The sound of horses' hooves will echo through the air in Dresden once again.

Sunday, May 28 is the opening day for harness racing at Dresden Raceway, and there are a number of special events planned to mark the event.

"It's going to be ladies' day, and Kentucky Derby-style hat contest," said Track Facilitator, Claudette Lemesurier. "So bring your creations, any Kentucky Derby-style hat, and there's gonna be some great prizes for first, second, and third."

Post time is 1 p.m. and Lemesurier said attending the races is an experience.

"You can definitely come for the excitement of live harness racing, but there's also an experience as well," said Lemesurier. "You can have your Mint Juleps this weekend, we're going to have 50/50 draws, we're going to have some giveaways, great prizes."

Lemesurier adds that 2023 is shaping up to be a busy season of harness racing in Dresden.

"So we have 11 race dates, our final race date is on a Monday. Most of them are on Sunday at 1 p.m. but our final one is Monday, August 7th at 1 p.m. and that will be Black Heritage Day," said Lemesurier.

More details on the race season can be found on their new website, https://dresden-raceway.ca/.
