Transport truck driver charged after going off the road on the Highway 401 in CK

A 43-year-old truck driver from St. Marys is charged with careless driving after a transport truck went off the road on the Highway 401 just outside of Chatham over the weekend.

Police with the Chatham detachment of the OPP were called to the scene just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday after a transport truck left the road and almost hit a sign in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the Bloomfield Road interchange.

OPP said the driver -- who was the only person in the vehicle at the time -- was not hurt.

Police closed one lane of the highway temporarily for the investigation and so that crews could safely remove the vehicle.

The driver was charged with careless driving, but police are still appealing to the public for information that might help them with the investigation.

OPP said anyone who saw the collision or who may have dashcam footage should contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or online at www.opp.ca/reporting.

You can also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-84777 (TIPS) or www.stthomas-elgincrimestoppers.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward.
