UPDATE: Crash into hydro pole near Merlin prompts road closure

Chatham-Kent police have closed down a section of Queen's Line between Chatham and Tilbury after a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole Friday morning.

CK police said as of around 10 a.m. Friday, the road was set to be closed for three to four hours between Drake Road and Merlin Road for the investigation and so that Hydro One can replace the pole that was damaged.

Reports to the CK News Today newsroom indicate that the hydro pole was completely snapped as a result of the collision.

There is no word yet on whether anyone was hurt as a result of the crash or whether charges will be laid.

Entegrus issued a notice to its customers in Merlin about an emergency power outage in the community so crews could make the necessary repairs.

All power to Merlin has been restored.

Customers still without power are encouraged to call 1-866-804-7325.
