New after-hours system at West Region OPP detachments

If you have to go to an Ontario Provincial Police detachment after hours, you'll notice a change.

Instead of the old phone handset used for decades to connect with the OPP Provincial Communications Centre, you'll find a new touchscreen "E-phone."

The OPP is modernizing the system, but the function remains the same.

When the user touches the call icon on the screen, dispatchers will immediately know where you're calling from.

It saves dispatchers time collecting information, and the public can be confident that police will respond.

So far, 20 detachments across the West Region have made the switch. The other 14 will change the after-hours phone by this fall.
