Pair of Chatham residents charged with defrauding disability support program

Two Chatham residents are facing charges after they allegedly cheated a provincial disability support program out of more than $21,000.

Chatham-Kent police said their fraud investigation started on January 5 and that officers learned that the man and woman were defrauding the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services' Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

Officers said an "extensive investigation" showed that the money was fraudulently obtained between 2021 and 2023.

A 30-year-old Chatham woman and a 34-year-old Chatham man were both arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000.

They were taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
