UPDATE: crash near Merlin claims one life

Chatham-Kent police say a 51-year-old Wheatley man is dead after a single-vehicle crash near Merlin.

Around 6 a.m. Thursday, emergency crews were called to Merlin Road at Kidd Line -- just south of Merlin.

Police said a vehicle that was heading east on Kidd Road went through the intersection, left the road, and crashed. A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
