Charges laid after stolen vehicle recovered

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg resident is facing multiple charges after Lambton OPP recovered a stolen vehicle following a collision.

Police said a vehicle was reported stolen at around 2:40 a.m. on August 25 from an unspecified area on St. Clair Parkway in St. Clair Township.

Shortly after, police received a traffic complaint involving a similarly described vehicle.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle on St. Clair Parkway, north of Dufferin Avenue, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over. The pursuit was called off because of public safety concerns.

A single-vehicle crash was later reported at around 3:35 a.m. on Chiefs Road, north of Austin Road, on Walpole Island First Nation.

OPP said the driver was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, flight from a peace officer, failure or refusal to comply, and driving while under suspension.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 24 in Sarnia.

Lambton OPP thanked those who reported information related to the incident, which led to an arrest.
