The former St. Ursula Catholic School has new tenants.
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board said it will now be used for Chatham-Kent police training.
The board warned that police will begin using the school for training sessions once a week and the public may notice an increased police presence and emergency response vehicles in the area of 426 Lacroix Street in Chatham.
The Board is assuring the community that these activities are solely related to police training and are no cause for concern.
“We are proud to support our local police services in this way,” said Director of Education Scott Johnson. “Their presence not only enhances safety and security in our community, but it also reinforces the positive relationships we strive to build between law enforcement and our schools.”
The board also believes that the police use will help deter inappropriate use of the empty property, such as loitering or vandalism, while the site waits to be sold.
The board noted it remains committed to maintaining positive relations with neighbours and invites anyone with questions to reach out directly.
