$500K in drugs and weapons seized in Walpole Island bust

Police seized over $500,000 worth of drugs and weapons in a bust at Walpole Island First Nation.

On Friday, October 18, members of the Lambton OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Elgin-Middlesex CSCU, West Region OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Walpole Island Police Service searched a home on Union Hall Road.

Officers seized a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, as well as firearms, cash and other offence related items.

Police said 33-year-old Emerson Sands, 29-year-old Walter Sands, 58-year-old Donald Peters, and 25-year-old Megan Shipman, all from Walpole Island First Nation, have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and careless storage of a firearm or prohibited weapon.

Emerson Sands is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

All four suspects were being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
