Police standoff in Wallaceburg ends peacefully

A man wanted for a home invasion and robbery in Windsor has been arrested in Wallaceburg after a brief police standoff.

Chatham-Kent police reported the 33-year-old male, believed to be armed with a sawed-off shotgun, was arrested on Tuesday hiding in a recreational vehicle on a property on Old Glass Road in Wallaceburg.

The Ontario Provincial Police attempted many times to get the man to come out, but after several unsuccessful attempts they had to call in the Chatham-Kent Critical Incident Response Team and the Police Dog Service to execute the arrest warrant.

The man was arrested without incident about 90 minutes later, according to Chatham-Kent police, and was returned to the custody of Windsor police.

The Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad provided the tip about the suspect.
