Golden Hawks headed to OFSAA for hockey

The boys and girls hockey teams from Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) are headed to the provincial championships.

The senior boys are headed to the 'AAA' OFSAA tournament in Windsor-Essex this week. The Golden Hawks qualified for provincials for the second straight year when they beat Villanova 5-1 in the SWOSSA challenge game.

The boys are seeded 12th and open the tournament at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday when they play 7-seed Bishop Reding from Milton at the Atlas Tube Centre in Belle River.

CK will face the number 1 overall seed, St. Martin from Mississauga at noon, before wrapping up pool play on Wednesday against 14-seed Waterdown at 8 a.m. at Tecumseh Arena.

The Golden Hawks girls are also headed to their second straight OFSAA. They beat Villanova 5-2 to win SWOSSA, and punched their tickets to the 'AAA' tournament in Aurora.

The girls are seeded 16th and play their first game at 8 a.m. on Tuesday against 3-seed Louis Riel from Ottawa, before taking on 5-seed and host St. Maximilian at 12:15 p.m. CK will close out pool play against Loretto Abbey, the 10-seed from North York on Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Summer projects underway at area schools

Class may be out for summer, but crews will be busy finishing some projects at schools with both the St. Clair Catholic District School Board and Lambton Kent District School Board.
