Two brands of frozen pastries have been recalled over concerns of possible salmonella contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall for Sweet Cream brand and D. Effe T. brand apollini mignon, mini lobster tail, apollo K2, big lobster tail, sfogliata Napoli, big sfoglia Napoli, mini sfogliatella, mini sflogliatella cioccolato, and mini chocolate sfogliatele. The affected products were sold in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and possibly other provinces and territories. The recalled pastries may have been sold clerk-served or in smaller packages without a label bearing the same brand, product name, or lot number.
The recall was triggered by the findings of an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak by the national food inspection agency.
There has been one illness linked to the affected products, the CFIA said.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Anyone who has the recalled products is advised not to eat them and to either throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased.
