Man charged after more than a half kilo of cocaine seized

Chatham-Kent police say a man is charged after officers seized fentanyl and more than half a kilogram of cocaine.

Police alleged a 19-year-old Chatham man carrying a bag ran away when officers approached him at a motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham on Monday just before 1 a.m.

Police said they went there in connection with a suspect from a previous fail-to-remain collision and alleged the suspect was leaving a motel unit carrying a bag.

He was arrested shortly after discarding the bag behind a vehicle, alleged police.

Police alleged the bag contained approximately $20,000 in Canadian currency, 600 grams of suspected cocaine, and 34 grams of suspected fentanyl.

The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
