Nearly one quarter of all eligible voters in the riding of Chatham-Kent-Leamington took advantage of the advance polls.
Over 24,000 votes were cast from April 18 to 21.
"People are concerned this time around," said Guy Taylor, the federal returning officer for Chatham-Kent-Leamington.
This riding isn't the only one to see an increase at the advance polls. According to Elections Canada, a record of 7.3 million people across the country voted early. This is up around 25 per cent from the 2021 election.
Chatham-Kent-Leamington saw a roughly 20 per cent increase as under 20,000 people voted early in 2021. However, this total was also nearly one quarter of all eligible voters as the boundary changes made to the riding have increased the population by over 20,000 and the number of eligible voters by nearly the same amount.
Everyone allowed to vote and didn't during the advance polls will have one more chance to do so on Election Day. Polls will open on April 28 at 9:30 a.m. and remain open until 9:30 p.m. Anyone lined up to vote before the deadline will still be allowed to do so.
