Record number vote in advance polls

Elections Canada says the number of people who voted in the advance polls for next Monday's election has set a new record.

Preliminary figures show 7.3-million people cast a ballot, 2-million alone in last Friday's advance poll.

That's an increase of 25 per cent over the number that voted early in the 2021 federal election.

"This is an estimate," cautioned Elections Canada. "Some polls may not have reported yet."

An estimated 28.2-million Canadians are eligible to vote in the upcoming federal election.

Elections Canada is still breaking down the numbers in each electoral district. Those figures should be released soon.

Advance polls were open Friday, April 18; Saturday, April 19; Sunday, April 20; and Monday, April 21.

The election is on Monday, April 28.
