Man in red jacket seen breaking into local business

A 48-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been arrested and charged in connection with a break-in at a local business.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene at a local office in Chatham shortly after 7 a.m. Monday.

Officers said video surveillance showed a suspect wearing a red jacket had broken into the building at around 5:30 a.m. that same morning and took off with two laptop computers before he fled the scene.

Police were able to identify the suspect and later arrested him.

He was taken to police headquarters where he was charged with break-and-enter to commit an offence and he was later released with a future court date.

Traffic stop turns up impaired driver

A 46-year-old Wallaceburg woman is facing an impaired driving charge after an early morning traffic stop in her hometown.

Chatham-Kent police said they stopped the vehicle at around 2:45 a.m. Monday on Montgomery Drive and determined that the woman was driving while impaired by drugs.

As a result, she was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters for further testing, which confirmed that she was impaired.

The woman was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs and she was later released with conditions and a future court date.
