Argument leads to assault charge

A Chatham woman is facing one count of assault after allegedly attacking a man in a vehicle.

Police said that officers were called to an address on William Street South in Chatham just before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday for the report of an assault.

According to investigators, a 31-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man got into an argument about a past relationship. The fight reportedly turned physical inside a vehicle while the two were driving home from a local restaurant.

After speaking to both parties, police arrested the woman. She was later released from police custody with a June 23 court date.

Provincial police pitch in to arrest alleged porch pirate

Police caught up to a 34-year-old Wallaceburg man who didn't show up to court in connection with a January theft.

CK police said that the man was previously arrested for theft and possession of stolen property, following the theft of a package from the porch of a home in Chatham.

At the time, police said they tracked the man down using surveillance footage. Officers found him carrying a package addressed to a person who didn't match the man's identity.

He was arrested and given a March court date. When he failed to show up for court, police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the man was found and arrested by members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). He was turned over to Chatham-Kent police and eventually released with a new court date.
