PAWR to host first Rainbow Cat Café

Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) hopes community members and shelter animals will bond at the shelter's next cat café event.

On Saturday, May 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. guests are welcome to drop by the shelter (405 Park Ave. E., Chatham) for live music, sweet treats, coffee, and a chance to meet some furry friends and fellow animal lovers.

"We have run three cat cafés so far, and all were very successful," said PAWR Executive Director Myriam Armstrong.

This version of the event will be a little bit different than previous cafés, as it doesn't only focus on the animals.

"This is our first rainbow edition," Armstrong shared. "It is in celebration of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia."

PAWR also houses rescued cats at the Purrculator Café, which is a joint venture with Glasshouse Nursery, but Armstrong explained that café events at the shelter are unique.

"The shelter offers a different experience, as we set up our room as a café with live music and introduce many different cats and kittens throughout the event," she said. "Our hope is to let people enjoy a bonding moment with our animals, get to know us and the shelter, and possibly fall in love."

There will also be local vendors on-site during the event to round out the experience.

Tickets for the Rainbow Cat Café cost $20 and can be purchased here or at the door. All proceeds go toward the wellbeing and comfort of the animals in PAWR's care.
