Tickets on sale now for CK Victim Services gala

Chatham-Kent Victim Services is gearing up to host its first ever fundraising gala.

"We're calling it Garden of Giving, and it's going to be June 13 at the Retro Suites," said Executive Director Kate do Forno. "Doors open at 5:30. It should be a really great night. We're really looking forward to it."

The event features a couple of inspiring guest speakers, including Dr. Lori Haskell.

"Dr. Haskell is a former Chatham resident and she has an Order of Canada, and she researches on the neurobiology of trauma. She's going to be doing a talk that's entitled, 'Understanding Trauma: What Helps Us Heal from Abuse and Violence'" said do Forno.

Cristina Ruscica, a local practitioner and wellness advocate, will also speak about harnessing the subconscious for healing. Plus there will also be live entertainment, a DJ, dancing, a silent auction, and prizes.

do Forno said they chose a spring-theme for the gala to reflect the spirit of the season.

"At Chatham-Kent Victim Services, the work that we do sometimes can feel heavy," said do Forno. "We want to make sure that the community knows that there's opportunities for growth and renewal, through the things that sort of you experience that are those dark moments in life."

All the money raised stays in Chatham-Kent to help run their numerous programs.

"We support people who have experienced crime and tragedy in our community. Through that we are providing all sorts of different safety devices, access to counselling, access to basic necessities and supplies," said do Forno.

Tickets are $100 and can be purchased online at https://ckvictimservices.com/event/garden-of-giving/.
