OPP looking for cause of oil spill that led to crash near Chatham

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking the public for help finding the cause of a sizable oil spill on Highway 401 next to Chatham.

Officers found the spill Saturday morning after responding to a single-vehicle collision, but they still have not pinned down why the oil was on the roadway.

At this time, the OPP believe the spill played a role in the crash as it caused the road to become slippery. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Westbound lanes on Highway 401 were closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the mess.

Anyone with information on the spill is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
