Man charged after allegedly breaking into home, assaulting woman

A 45-year-old Chatham man is charged after he allegedly broke into a home and assaulted a woman.

At around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Chatham-Kent police received a report of possible intimate partner violence on Gray Street.

When officers arrived, they found the front door open and significant damage throughout the inside of the home.

A 32-year-old woman at the home told officers she was physically assaulted and needed medical care.

A man was later arrested and charged with assault, break and enter, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He had been released on conditions after a previous domestic violence incident involving the same woman.
