Canada Post has a deal with its second-largest union.
No. Not the union that represents its 55,000 mail carriers. The collective agreement is with the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association, which represents 8,500 primarily responsible for managing post offices in rural areas.
The new agreement includes an 11 per cent wage increase over three years retroactive to January 1, 2024. Members of CPAA will get a six per cent increase for last year, three per cent for 2025, and two per cent next year.
The new agreement is in place until December 31, 2026.
The two sides negotiated for 18 months before the arbitrator issued a ruling.
"In her final award, the arbitrator for these negotiations cited the recent Industrial Inquiry Commission report, which was released on May 15," read a release. "She noted that the IIC report had an impact on negotiations and that even under the challenging circumstances that the report outlined, the parties proved collective bargaining can work."
Meanwhile, members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are still waiting for an agreement.
Last week, Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hadju said she would force a ratification vote on Canada Post's final offer, but there's no word yet when that will take place.
