Santos leaving the Chatham Maroons to join Flyers' coaching staff

The Leamington Flyers have hired a new Assistant General Manager and Assistant Head Coach.

Richard Santos is joining the team fresh off of leading the Chatham Maroons to the Sutherland Cup title in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).

"Richard and I have coached against each other, and I've always appreciated the passion he brings behind the bench," said Flyers head coach and GM Dale Mitchell. "He's a Sutherland Cup champion with valuable experience as both a GM and head coach, a great asset to Leamington. We're excited to have Rich involved and looking forward to working with him."

Santos replaces another former Maroons head coach, Kyle Makaric, who left the Flyers last week to join the Saginaw Spirit as assistant head coach.

There is no official word yet from the Maroons on the team's plans to replace Santos as head coach.
