A long-running music and arts initiative on Pelee Island has received a boost from Queens Park.
The Stone and Sky Music & Arts Series is getting $7,500 through the Ontario Arts Council, a service of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Gaming.
"Now more than ever, it is crucial we support made-in-Ontario experiences that build stronger communities, strengthen local economies, and celebrate our shared heritage," said Minister Stan Cho. "Our government is thrilled to provide Stone and Sky with the funding it needs to continue its great work in Windsor–Essex complementing the creative endeavours of other arts organizations across the province."
Stone and Sky has been part of the Pelee Island cultural scene since 2012, consisting of an accessible outdoor, three-season cultural hub. It consists of live performances spanning a variety of disciplines, as well as artist residences.
"The Stone and Sky Music & Arts Series perfectly showcases how music, live performance, and the natural beauty of Pelee Island can come together to create a truly unique cultural experience," said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie. "Support from the Ontario Arts Council ensures that artists can continue to inspire audiences, draw visitors to the island, and strengthen both the cultural fabric and economic vitality of our region."
Events at the natural amphitheater are scheduled through mid-September. Performances begin at 6 p.m. and conclude in plenty of time for visitors to catch the last ferry.
In addition, the Farmers' Market in the Quarry is on every Saturday through August 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
