Chatham women charged after allegedly using bear spray, cigarette during fight

Two Chatham women have been charged with assault after allegedly getting into a nasty fight.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Chatham-Kent police were called to a home in Chatham about a possible altercation.

It's alleged a 55-year-old and 34-year-old woman got into a fight, with the older woman reportedly putting out a cigarette on the younger woman's face.

The younger woman responded by allegedly using bear spray on the older woman.

CK police did not specify whether either woman needed medical attention.

Both women were arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. The 34-year-old woman was also charged with administering a noxious substance.

Both were released from custody with a future court date.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
