Charges laid in Walpole Island assault investigation

A 30-year-old man is facing several charges for allegedly assaulting someone with an edged weapon at Walpole Island First Nation.

Members of the Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton OPP were called to the intersection of Old Ferry Road and Union Hall Road at around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30.

OPP said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The accused was found at a nearby residence and arrested.

The Walpole Island man was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, failure to comply with a probation order, mischief - destroys or damages property, break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, and failure to comply with a release order - other than to attend court.

He remains in police custody and is being held pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
