Man charged after allegedly threatening woman with crossbow

A Chatham man has been charged with multiple offences, including weapons charges, after police alleged he threatened a woman with a crossbow.

Chatham-Kent police said a 34-year-old woman from Chatham reported being threatened with a crossbow by the 24-year-old male suspect on Thursday afternoon at a home on Tweedsmuir Avenue West in Chatham.

Police said officers set up a perimeter around the house and directed the occupants to exit the home for safety reasons. However, police alleged the man refused to comply and a Taser had to be used during his arrest.

Police also alleged the man has a history of making threats to others in the house, including pointing a loaded crossbow at people.

He is also currently bound by conditions prohibiting him from possessing weapons, according to police.

He is facing several charges, including uttering death threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, failure to comply with release order, and possession of ammunition contrary to a probation order.
