Over 100 CK households given air conditioning units during summer

The heat this summer was a lot more manageable for several low-income households.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent announced on Thursday that 125 households were given air conditioning units through the initiative "CK Cools."

This new program, which began this year, is a partnership between the CK Employment and Social Services, Home Hardware, and NeighbourLink.

“With Chatham-Kent experiencing longer periods of extreme heat, the CK Cools initiative was created to provide important support for people to safely shelter at home,” said Steve Brown, one of the multiple people who helped oversee CK Cools. "This initiative will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our community for years to come."

The Municipality didn't say how many people applied to receive an air conditioner, only that they didn't have enough units for everyone.

The plan is to bring back CK Cools next year, with people able to apply through the Municipality's website.
