Time is running out to sign up for the Mike Currie Memorial.
The event is taking place this September 6 at 9 a.m. at Talbot Trail Place in Blenheim, but online registration through Race Roster closes on Thursday, September 4.
"We have a 1 km Fun Run for kids, we also have a 5 and 10 km run, and we have a chip time for those who are more of the running enthusiasts," said Sergeant Jason Herder. "We also have a bicycle component, we have a 30 km bike ride and then we have a 60 km bike ride."
All of the money raised goes directly to support Special Olympics Ontario.
The event was renamed after Mike Currie a former Chatham-Kent police constable.
"He was heavily involved with the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics. This is our way of remembering him and honouring him and his 30-plus years of contribution to LETR" said Herder.
"He was one of the original founding members when we started LETR, the Torch Run here in Ontario," added Herder. "He was Games manager of the games in Chatham in 1997. It was something, even through his retirement and right up to his passing, that he was heavily involved with Special Olympics. It was near and dear to his heart."
