Chatham raises Terry Fox Flag

A flag to honour Terry Fox has been raised in Chatham.

The flag was raised at the Civic Centre Monday at noon.

“The flag raising really is to raise awareness of the Terry Fox run and the efforts that are being made to raise funding for cancer research,” said Pat McMahon, who used to organize the Terry Fox runs in Chatham-Kent (CK).

“It's really helped create some treatments that cure people from certain types of cancer, and people are getting treatments out that they never heard of decades ago,” said McMahon.

McMahon will be attending the Terry Fox run in Dresden, which is celebrating its third decade of fundraising.

It’s hoping to reach $18,700 in its 30th year.

The Dresden run is already at 78 per cent of that goal, which will bring the cumulative amount of fundraising to $1 million over the 30 years.

There will also be runs in Wallaceburg, Blenheim, and Tilbury.

Both Chatham and Ridgetown will be hosting their events virtually.

All the runs are set to take place this Sunday.
