UPDATE: SIU probing incident in Wallaceburg

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident in Wallaceburg.

At 2 a.m. on Saturday, Chatham-Kent (CK) police responded to a home in the area of Murray Street and King Street, following reports of a man with a weapon who was allegedly threatening people.

When officers arrived, a man had barricaded himself inside the home, and police secured the area.

According to the SIU, officers entered the home roughly 13 hours later.

To stop the man from harming himself with a knife, three officers discharged their conducted energy weapons at the man to prevent him from doing so.

During the interaction, the man was injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

CK police notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate.

The SIU has assigned two investigators and two forensic investigators to the case, as well as one subject official and five witness officials.
