The Member of Parliament (MP) for Chatham-Kent-Leamington has no plans to switch political parties.
Dave Epp spoke with CK News Today, where he shared his thoughts after MPs Chris d’Entremont and Michael Ma crossed the floor to join the Liberals.
Epp said he was asked shortly after the 2025 election, but declined the offer. His thoughts haven't changed in the months since.
"Am I going to cross? The answer is no. You can print that, scream that from the top of rooftops," explained Epp.
He mentioned he's not a fan of floor crossings, but acknowledged that they're perfectly legal.
Epp said it's perfectly reasonable for a person to grow tired of their political party, but joining another party without approval from their constituents is something he can't agree with.
"I think the more honourable route would be if someone is dissatisfied to the point of resignation from your own caucus, they should sit as an Independent and then seek the legitimacy from the folks you represent," he added.
Epp also acknowledged that some vote for the party and some for the candidate. That being said, he believes people who voted for him specifically did so knowing he was a Conservative.
