Temperatures above freezing and forecasted rain may lead to flooding in the Chatham area.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued a flood outlook, explaining that the Thames River in Chatham is expected to flood the sidewalk along the river downtown.
The region is expected to see 15 to 35 mm of rain on Tuesday night with daytime highs of up to seven degrees. The advisory explains that areas of ponding, standing water, and flooding are expected around watersheds.
To help combat the melting ice and accumulating rain, LTVCA is planning to operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel in Chatham.
The alert reminds people to take extra caution and avoid rivers, ditches, and streams.
Officials will monitor the situation and update the message when needed, adding that an update is likely once the total amount of rainfall and snowmelt is known.
This advisory is in effect until February 19.
