Nesbitt hat trick seals West Division title for Spitfires

The Windsor Spitfires ended their regular season in excellent playoff position.

With the club's 5-3 win Sunday afternoon on the road against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, the Spits have locked up the OHL West Division for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

They've also clinched the number-2 seed in the OHL Western Conference playoffs and will begin the first round against Guelph on Thursday.

Windsor came out swinging in the first period with goals by Liam Greentree and Jack Nesbitt. Jeremy Martin got the Hounds on the board with a power play goal later in the period.

The Soo tied the game up midway through the second period with Travis Hayes' 16th goal of the year. Nesbitt struck again toward the end of the middle stanza for a brief 3-2 lead.

In the third period, the Greyhounds tied the game again thanks to Marco Mignosa's 35th goal of the year. Nesbitt completed the hat trick with what turned out to be the game-winner at 10:26.

Anthony Cristoforo provided insurance with his 22nd goal with a minute left in regulation.

The Spitfires complete the 2025-26 regular season with 97 points.

The playoffs open against Guelph Thursday night at the WFCU Centre with a puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
