Tilbury driver charged after single-vehicle crash

Two people were hurt in a weekend crash that saw a vehicle end up in a ditch.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Grove Road in Tilbury, just after 2:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Two people were in the vehicle, which reportedly lost control and ended up in a six-foot ditch that was partially filled with water. Both individuals were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The driver, a 27-year-old Tilbury woman, was arrested and charged for driving while impaired and for having a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.

She was released from police custody with conditions and an April court date.

Mailbox damaged in hit and run

A 59-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after police said she hit a mailbox with her vehicle and kept on going.

CK police were called to Baldoon Road in Chatham shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday for a traffic complaint.

According to police, an SUV struck a mailbox in the area and the driver didn't stick around. The same SUV was later spotted pulling into a driveway on Balmoral Road.

When the driver got out, police said she showed signs of being impaired.

The woman was arrested and taken to police headquarters for testing, which she reportedly failed. The Chatham woman has since been released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man faces assault charges

CK police arrested a 25-year-old man over the weekend following a report of intimate partner violence.

Officers were called to a Chatham home at about 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, where it was determined that the suspect had attacked a 20-year-old woman.

According to police, the man threw things at her and physically assaulted the woman choking her.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was charged with one count of assault and two counts of assault causing bodily harm through choking. He was later released from police custody with conditions and a future court date.
