The Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) will be forgiving overdue charges starting on Monday.
Library officials said patrons can visit any library branch to have old overdue fines cleared from their account and "start a new chapter."
CKPL recently eliminated overdue fines on almost all library materials to remove barriers to library access.
"Through this initiative, CKPL hopes that anyone who is not using the library due to outstanding fines will feel welcome to return to the library and resume using library services," said Erin Auger, CKPL Manager of Public Services.
CKPL noted patrons can visit their local library branch to update their library account and staff will waive existing overdue fines until October 24. However, some limitations will apply. Officials said replacement charges for unreturned or damaged items cannot be waived.
