Former CK employee running for municipal council

A former employee of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) is running in this year's election.

Doug Robbins is running in Ward 7, one of three wards representing Chatham.

He previously held multiple municipal positions, with the most prominent being as an Economic Development Officer.

Robbins told CK News Today that several people encouraged him to run due to his experience with the municipality.

"I bring a different perspective, inside knowledge with an outsider's edge," he explained.

If elected, Robbins explained that he would work to cut as much red tape as possible. The struggles some faced, many of whom were business owners, were something Robbins saw firsthand when working as an Economic Development Officer.

"Maybe we can be more efficient, making things easier... individuals that want to put on events or start a business can do it more efficiently with a little less work," he added.

As to why he believes people should vote for him, Robbins was quick to mention his experience working with the municipality. Specifically, he can be an option for people who want change and for people who want experience.

"I've been on the inside, I've seen how things work, and I'm very familiar with it," said Robbins.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
