Double gold for VanNeck at OFSAA

It was a golden weekend for Noah VanNeck at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track and Field championships.

The thrower from Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) won gold in junior boys discus with a throw of 62.69 metres, and won gold in shot put with a throw of 19.04.

That's VanNeck's third and fourth high school provincial titles. He won gold in discus and shot put last year.

But it was a tough weekend for local teams at OFSAA.

Lambton-Kent Composite School (LKCS) boys soccer team went 2-0-2 at the 'A' tournament in Oakville, but lost 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

École secondaire catholique de Pain Court (ESPC) girls soccer team finished with a 0-2-2 record at the 'A' tournament near Peterborough.

Ursuline College Chatham (UCC) girls rugby team won their opening game 24-21 at the 'AAA' tournament in Lindsay, but lost their next two games.

Meanwhile, the Lancers girls' slo-pitch team opens the OFSAA festival in Burlington with three games today.
