Trial dates set for Wallaceburg man accused of murder

A 70-year-old Wallaceburg man charged with first-degree murder will be going to trial in late 2027, four years after his arrest.

Marc Lebelle was charged after Chatham-Kent police found a body in a home on Elgin Street in Wallaceburg at the end of October 2023. The 64-year-old victim, also from Wallaceburg, was found with stab and slash wounds to his neck after police were called for a medical emergency shortly before 2 a.m.

On Thursday, Labelle heard he will have a four-week jury trial beginning October 4, 2027.

Pre-trial motions will be held from May 10-14 and May 17-21.

Police previously noted the victim and the accused knew each other.

Lebelle remains in custody.

Publication bans currently prevent any evidence from being made public.
