Ontario offers free fishing over Father's Day weekend

Once again, the province is offering free fishing over the Father's Day weekend.

Residents can fish without buying a license or an Outdoors Card. All conservation licence catch and size limits, fishing sanctuaries and other fishing regulations still apply.

"Some of the best memories are made out on the water," said Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris. "Father's Day weekend is a great chance to cast a line for the first time, or rediscover the joy of it, while getting out to enjoy Ontario's beautiful outdoors."

Free fishing was also offered over the Mother's Day weekend. It's also free on Family Free Fishing Weekend, which is February 14 to 16, and Family Free Fishing Week, from June 27 to July 5.

Outside of free fishing weekends or weeks, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 must have an Outdoors Card and a license to fish. Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members in Ontario can fish for free any time.
