A maintenance worker from Blenheim is the latest to add their name to the ballot for Chatham-Kent's upcoming municipal election.
Fred Hooper is running in Ward 2, hoping to be one of two councillors representing people in Blenheim, Ridgetown, Erieau, and other communities.
He told CK News Today that he decided to run due to his frustration with the cost of living.
"If I can help in any way, you know what I mean. Something has to change because it's just getting out of control," said Hooper.
If elected, he would like to find ways to lower property taxes, curb spending on nice-to-have projects, and support people living on the streets and fighting a drug addiction.
Hooper also believes the next council needs to do more to support local seniors.
"All the seniors now are working into their late 60s and early 70s, so [create] some subsidy to help them out," he said.
When asked why people should vote for him, Hooper explained that he wants to do what he can to make life easier for everyone.
"I guarantee you that I can get a job done because of my voice, big heart, and compassion I feel for people," he added.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
